From the chair.
January 2010 saw some of the harshest winter conditions for many years. This resulted in the club closing for two days. This was a decision made by the management committee due to the fact user groups had cancelled and there was concern for the safety of those using the centre car park. The fact we were only closed for two days is a testament to the staff who had been prepared to attend at all times. A big thank you to them and sorry for any inconvenience, however it was safety first.

New staff changes
With Bills departure the management committee have restructured staff roles and positions at the club.
Rose now looks after office and administration issues. Alan looks after the site maintenance issues. Kath our new bar steward looks after the club bar and promotion of events.
New Club Steward.
Kath Miller has been appointed as the new steward of the GYCA bar. Kath brings a great deal of experience in relation to running a bar and involvement in youth issues. She is keen to bring events to the club and provide a professional service to our members who attend the club. In the next edition we shall have a detailed feature about Kath.
Private development partnership
The GYCA has done well, considering the economic situation which has seen many pubs and clubs closing their doors for good. However we must secure the long term survival of the GYCA and its ability to serve the local community. To achieve this goal the current management committee have looked at potential opportunities to work in partnership with private business investors. Our aim is to have a community centre which is viewed as a 'flagship' setting standards for others to follow.
Full details will be outlined at the next council meeting scheduled on the 17th February 2010. The proposals under consideration will bring development and modernisation to existing buildings, some of which are in a derelict or poor state of repair. The partnership will also bring community facilities in the form of keep fit equipment, beauty therapy and physiotherapy. This professional partnership will be on a fixed term and will bring in rental to the club which will enable investment to provide improved facilities for the local community. Negotiations are taking place including the usual legal issues, but rest assured we will always consider what is best for the club, its members and the user groups. We need to embrace such positive changes and become financially secure.
Five Year Plan.
The current management committee introduced a five year plan for the GYCA. This is displayed at the club and can be seen in full on the website. However the following will give you a brief overview.
